YouTube - The Cape - Preview

YouTube - The Cape - Preview

Another promising show for the Fall 2010 lineup. The Cape is a series about a father and police officer Trip Faraday, played by Ryan Wynott, whose framed for a crime, because he is the only cop in the department who is not corrupt. Trip somehow survives a devastating crash in which everyone believes him to be dead and meets up with a circus promoter who teaches him how to become the comic book hero "The Cape". He gives him a mystical cape made of spider silk, that is stronger than teflon and lighter. This cape is used to do everything. Just as Batman uses his utility belt to fight crime, so does the "The Cape" with, you guessed it, his cape. The amazing thing about The Cape is that he does not have super powers. He merely knows how to use the cape in ways to fight corruption. He is a normal guy, much like Bruce Wayne, who knows how to use the tools presented to him to do good. This show looks like it could be very promising as Comic Book Fever spreads through Hollywood from the movie industry to the television industry in the Fall lineup.

YouTube - ABC's NO ORDINARY FAMILY - TRAILER

This new show coming to ABC in September looks very promising. Especially, if you are like me and love anything and everything to do with superheroes and superpowers. The premise of the show is not a new one. It's basically a combination of The Fantastic Four meets the Disney Pixar movie The Incredibles. In the short preview linked above, the family headed by Michael Chiklis is involved in a plane crash in the Amazon. The plane crashes into the mysterious river, which in turn gives the family super powers. The show is a journey through what mysterious chemical in the river gave the family their powers and also about the family discovering what powers they have. For example, in the preview Chikis not only seems to be indestructible, but can also jump building (like Superman). The rest of the family has different powers. Chiklis' wife has super speed (such as the Flash) while his daughter can has telekinesis and his son has an amazing ability to perform math.
Overall, this show looks like it could be promising. No, it is not a new premise, but it's been a while since a show like this was on national prime time tv.

Walking Dead News From Comicon

Along with the summer heat, comes one of the most popular conventions known to man, that I've never actually been to.  Comicon at the San Diego Convention center has been enthralling comic book fanboys, and just overall self proclaimed "geeks" now for forty one years.  For those who have not followed the history of the conference, what used to be a gathering of like-minded comic book fans is now a galla for the whose who of Hollywood.  Every year tons of movies are introduced to the world at Comicon.  This year, for example, AMC announced that they would be premiering a show based on the beloved comic "The Walking Dead".  It looks absolutely amazing.  It isn't set to premiere until October, but from what I have seen so far from Comicon and the web, it has great potential.  As popular as the Zombie genre is, it's hard to believe that there aren't more Zombie shows on tv.  Once would think that the executive heads of the major networks would want to hone in the young to middle aged man's fascination with Zombies.  I, for one, will be watching when "The Walking Dead, premiere in October.  One can only hope that more people will be as well.
